Here's a tighter version: Lafayette Residence, Brooklyn Lafayette Residence investigates the relationship between architectural form and structural expression through a residential building organized as two interconnected volumes linked by suspended bridges at each floor. The separation of the masses creates a central courtyard that draws daylight deep into the interior, establishes a protected communal outdoor space, and fosters visual connectivity between residents across floors and facades. The program is built around communal living. Ground-floor commercial space activates the street edge and anchors the building within its neighborhood context. Above, a mix of two and three-bedroom apartments with private balconies extend living space outward and frame views of the courtyard below. The suspended bridges between the two volumes serve as both circulation and informal gathering space, encouraging spontaneous interaction among residents. The courtyard itself functions as the social core of the building, a shared outdoor room for recreation and everyday life. The structural system is treated as an integral design element. Long-span steel transfer girders, suspended bridge assemblies, and exposed framing make the logic of the structure legible from both inside and out. Perforated metal screens moderate solar gain while preserving views and generating dynamic patterns of light throughout the day. A green roof reduces heat gain, manages stormwater, and provides accessible outdoor space for residents. The project was developed through a comprehensive structural drawing set tracing the building from early concept through full technical documentation.
